Meet the Artist: Laney (Dream Weaver)
Hello, ?edlanet’eh!
My name is Laney, my spirit name is Dream Weaver and I am a mixed Metis, Dene, and Ukrainian woman from Deninu K’ue (Fort Resolution), Northwest Territories. I was privileged enough to grow up in my home territory on the shores of Tue Nedhe (Great Slave Lake), and most of my art is inspired by the plants and animals of the boreal forest and Canadian shield, the land that raised me.
I myself was born with Amniotic Bands Syndrome, a congenital condition affecting my hands and feet which required me to undergo 10 surgeries. As I am from an isolated community, I needed to travel 12 hours by car to Edmonton to have these procedures done. Being admitted to hospital, or having a child who is admitted to hospital, is one of the most stressful times of a person’s life, and this stress is amplified when you are separated from your community. Whether or not you are from the north, I hope that my art can bring you some warmth and comfort, or at least some colourful distraction during this trying time.
If you are interested in looking at more of my art, please use the QR code below to access my instragram page, @dream.weaver.art or contact me by email at laneybeaulieu@hotmail.com to ask questions or purchase art.
Wishing you nothing but strength and love,
Laney “Dream Weaver” Beaulieu
